300,000 Suffering Men
Avoid AI use at all costs
In my research, the best estimates I can find suggest around 300,000 men currently use aromatase inhibitors (estrogen blockers) alongside their testosterone therapy.
I highly recommend you avoid aromatase inhibitors at all costs.
Here is a quick little biology lesson for the uninitiated:
In males, the vast majority of estrogen is produced from testosterone.
This is through aromatization, in which a certain amount of the testosterone in your tissue is converted into estrogen.
Now, if you guessed that men with higher testosterone tend to have higher estrogen, you’d be correct (at least, that’s the case in a body functioning optimally).
You might also guess that your estrogen will tend to rise proportionally as you start taking exogenous testosterone.
Correct again.
The problem?
A LOT of doctors attempt to thwart this natural process.
In fact, the practice of using an aromatase inhibitor (drugs designed to reduce aromatization and bring down estrogen levels) is so common that many MISINFORMED doctors will give it to their patients immediately upon starting therapy.
And if you were planning on going with the first doctor or “TRT mill” that popped up on Google in your area, chances are this is what will happen to you, too.
BIG mistake!
You do NOT want to suppress estrogen.
Because contrary to bro lore about estrogen turning you into a chick, this hormone is critical for male health, including:
✅ Libido (fun fact - a lot of the libido suppression seen in low T males is caused by low estrogen)
✅ Joint health and bone density
✅ Fat distribution
And about a dozen other functions that you don’t want to mess with.
Now, if you want to explore this in-depth, you can check out this free video I made on the topic.
Estrogen is essential.
And if you take the bait and allow yourself to be put on an aromatase inhibitor like Anastrozole (literally a women’s breast cancer medication), you’re asking for serious problems.
Now, I know what you’re thinking:
“Hunter, if aromatase inhibitors are so terrible, why do so many docs prescribe them?”
Ignorance.
The sad fact is that most of the places that prescribe TRT are fly-by-night clinics run by doctors who have NOT kept up with the clinical literature on this topic.
The reality is that most of the alleged symptoms of high estrogen aren’t caused by high estrogen - they’re caused by poor diet, poor lifestyle, and inflammation.
Much of this lore around estrogen also comes from the bodybuilding world.
Sure, if you’re taking INCREDIBLY supraphysiological amounts of testosterone, then yes, your estrogen might skyrocket out of control and cause some of these symptoms.
But if you’re taking a therapeutic dose (like I recommend), you are highly unlikely to encounter any of these problems.
Bottom line?
In a healthy male body, estrogen will rise and fall as much as needed to maintain harmony with your testosterone.
And if you let a quack doctor put you on one of these women’s breast cancer medications, you’re seriously disrupting this process.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Best,
Hunter Williams
