NAD+ and Fat Loss
The most neglected pathway?
Happy Friday!
I just dropped a new YouTube video on KPV.
This is an updated and expanded version to the one I published last year.
Now on to everyone’s favorite subject - FAT LOSS!
Regarding fat loss, we’re often bombarded with overly simplified clichés like “calories in, calories out.” '
While calorie balance matters, it’s just one piece of the puzzle.
In reality, achieving optimal body composition and lasting fat loss involves addressing multiple interconnected pathways—from consistent exercise and nutrient-dense eating to advanced hormone optimization.
Yet, even among biohackers and longevity enthusiasts, there’s one critical pathway that remains criminally overlooked: the NAD+ pathway.
Today, I’m going to shed light on NAD+, one of the body’s fundamental metabolic regulators, and how optimizing it—especially via injectable supplementation—could significantly accelerate your fat loss.
Why NAD+ Matters for Metabolism and Fat Loss
First off, what exactly is NAD+?
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a critical coenzyme present in every cell of your body.
Think of it as the master key that unlocks your body’s ability to convert food into usable energy.
NAD+ participates in hundreds of metabolic reactions, most notably within mitochondria—your cellular powerhouses.
Without sufficient NAD+, your metabolism slows, energy production drops, and fat loss becomes increasingly challenging.
Beyond energy, NAD+ also acts as fuel for a family of powerful enzymes known as sirtuins, which regulate fat burning, mitochondrial function, inflammation control, and even how your genes express themselves.
In simple terms: More NAD+ means a faster, healthier metabolism, less fat storage, and increased fat burning.
NAD+ Depletion
Your NAD+ levels naturally decline with age—significantly.
By middle age, NAD+ reserves often drop by 50% compared to youthful levels.
Aging tissues not only produce less NAD+, they also burn through it faster due to chronic inflammation and DNA repair needs.
The result?
A slower metabolism, greater difficulty burning fat, increased inflammation, and overall metabolic dysfunction.
Obesity, insulin resistance, alcohol consumption, and chronic inflammation all accelerate this NAD+ depletion even further.
This vicious cycle is partly why maintaining a lean, energetic body becomes progressively more difficult with each passing decade, regardless of your calorie counting.
Can Injecting NAD+ Help You Lose Fat?
The research strongly suggests: YES.
Multiple animal studies have shown that directly raising NAD+ levels—especially through injections—results in remarkable improvements in fat metabolism. For instance:
Enhanced mitochondrial activity: NAD+ boosts fat oxidation in mitochondria, essentially ramping up your body’s fat-burning engines.
Activation of sirtuins: These NAD+-dependent enzymes instruct your body to release stored fat for energy and inhibit new fat storage.
Adipose tissue remodeling: Higher NAD+ levels can convert stubborn white fat cells into metabolically active beige fat, actively burning calories for heat and energy.
Reduced inflammation: Elevated NAD+ levels calm inflammation in fat tissue, improving insulin sensitivity and fat mobilization.
In one compelling study, obese mice injected daily with NAD+ significantly reduced their body fat, reversed fatty liver disease, improved insulin sensitivity, and markedly lowered inflammation without reducing calories.
Human studies, while still early, confirm NAD+ supplements enhance metabolic rate, muscle insulin sensitivity, and slightly improve body composition even over short periods.
This evidence, combined with countless anecdotal experiences, strongly suggests NAD+ injections represent a potent and still largely untapped metabolic tool.
How to Use NAD+ Injections for Fat Loss
Injecting NAD+ directly—intramuscularly (IM) or subcutaneously (SubQ)—ensures high bioavailability and immediate metabolic benefits.
While dosing can vary, here’s a reliable protocol commonly used in the biohacking community:
Starting protocol: Inject 50 mg of NAD+ subcutaneously or IM 2-3 times per week (I prefer IM for a more potent effect).
Maintenance protocol: Once desired metabolic benefits are observed, many people settle at 50–100 mg injections 1–2 times weekly for ongoing support.
These doses are typically enough to restore youthful NAD+ levels, improve energy, enhance metabolic rate, and support healthy body composition without significant side effects.
Step-by-Step Guide to Mixing NAD+
To simplify this process, let’s walk through reconstituting a 500 mg bottle of NAD+:
Gather supplies:
5 ml bacteriostatic water
Alcohol swabs, insulin syringe (for injections), and withdrawing syringe
Reconstitute NAD+:
Wipe the vial top with an alcohol swab.
Draw exactly 5 ml of bacteriostatic water into your withdrawing syringe.
Slowly inject the water into the NAD+ vial, allowing it to dissolve gently (avoid shaking vigorously).
Dosing Calculation:
After mixing, your concentration is now 100 mg NAD+ per 1 ml (500 mg total ÷ 5 ml water).
Thus, a standard 50 mg dose equals 0.5 ml or 50 units, easily measured using an insulin syringe.
Administration:
For subcutaneous injection, pinch a small area of belly fat
Inject gently and slowly, then lightly massage the site if needed.
For IM injections, inject with directly into the glute or the delts.
Rotate injection sites to minimize discomfort.
Final Thoughts
Fat loss and longevity are multi-dimensional goals.
Instead of chasing fad diets or oversimplified approaches, embrace a comprehensive, multi-faceted strategy.
Optimizing NAD+ is one powerful and often neglected lever that can dramatically accelerate your journey toward a leaner, healthier, and more energetic body.
