SARMS: Fact vs. Fiction

Miracle drug or menace to your health?

I am frequently asked about my thoughts on SARMS.

What are SARMS?

SARMS (Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators) were first developed in the 1990s to mimic the effects of anabolic steroids by selectively binding to androgen receptors in muscles and bones while sparing other tissues.

Initially, they were researched as potential treatments for conditions like muscle wasting, osteoporosis, and age-related frailty due to their ability to promote muscle growth and bone density without severe androgenic side effects.

They sound almost too good to be true, don’t they?

✅ They’re readily available

✅ You don’t need to inject them

✅ And they build “craaaazy muscle brah!”

The dream molecule of every 16-year-old bro who got his first gym membership 6 months ago and is looking to take his physique to the “next level.” 😂

Alright, alright, that’s a little dismissive.

I know some grown men interested in SARMs (for all the alleged reasons I just outlined).

Like the guy who sent me in this valid question:

“What are your thoughts on SARMs? Have you ever researched with them? If so, are there any you recommend, or are they a no-go?”

So, what are my thoughts on these “miracle agents”?

And do I think they have any place in your optimization protocol?

The short answer is no - I do NOT recommend using SARMS to almost anyone.

As with everything, there are caveats, but I generally avoid them.

They look like the next big thing in the biohacking world on paper.

But in practice, they’re a HORROR show:

They decimate your lipid profile

They’re brutal on your liver

They wreck your sleep

They shut down your natural production of testosterone (ironic, considering this is why many guys avoid therapeutic testosterone)

And the worst part?

They don’t even work all that well.

If you use them, you’re essentially rolling the dice with your health for very little payoff.

So, what do I recommend instead?

You guessed it - testosterone.

Seriously, this is a no-brainer.

Not only will you get a better anabolic effect and build more muscle, but testosterone comes with added BENEFITS rather than added SIDE EFFECTS:

Better sleep

Better dopamine levels

Better cognition

Better mood

All that good stuff I talked about in Testosterone: The God Molecule.

In fact, I think a lot of this talk around SARMs ultimately comes down to guys being resistant to the idea of using testosterone.

Seriously, SARMs were big news 10-15 years ago.

And yet NOBODY who’s serious about their body and health uses them now.

🙅‍♂️ Bodybuilders don’t use them

🙅‍♂️ Athletes don’t use them

🙅‍♂️ Biohackers don’t use them

And you shouldn’t use them either.

End of story.

Best,

Hunter Williams
