Zen and the Art of Testosterone Therapy
A First Principles Approach
I honestly don’t think there’s a molecule on Earth more misunderstood than testosterone.
That’s the funny thing about optimization…
Most people’s assumptions deviate widely from reality.
Take peptides, for example.
Most people who have never self-administered peptides imagine the process of reconstituting and injecting will look like a scene from Breaking Bad (hazmat suit and all).
The reality?
It’s pretty dull and mundane.
A little bacteriostatic water, a small syringe, a quick little poke, and it’s done.
Testosterone is very much the same way.
When dudes who have never been hormonally optimized imagine what it’s going to be like, they picture something akin to the Incredible Hulk:
💪 Superhuman strength
🍆 A libido that can’t be quelled
👿 And insane levels of aggression
And there’s some truth to this.
Most men do notice increased strength and performance.
And if diminished sex drive was one of the symptoms you were suffering from, you will indeed notice a boost.
But the aggression part?
In my opinion, that’s inaccurate and the OPPOSITE of what typically occurs.
Don’t get me wrong - if you were a bit of a pushover before, you may indeed find yourself becoming more assertive.
You may find that you’re now standing up for yourself (maybe for the first time in your life).
However, assertiveness and aggression are two very different things.
There’s a BIG difference between grabbing the world by the horns…
And lashing out at it.
Wanna know the truth?
For the vast majority of men I work with, therapeutic testosterone is one of the most calming agents in existence.
This sounds counterintuitive, but it makes perfect sense when you think about it.
What are some of the tell-tale signs of testosterone deficiency?
😩 Irritability
😩 Anxiety
😩 Restlessness
😩 Depression
😩 A general feeling of jittery uneasiness.
And yes, with those feelings of uneasiness and irritability come feelings of ANGER as well.
Ironically, so many guys with low to no hormones are also quick to anger. 😡
And all that uneasiness melts away in the presence of optimized testosterone.
This was undoubtedly the case for me.
I remember being so anxious and depressed that sometimes I had to pull my car over to the side of the road on my way to work to compose myself.
But do you know what else I remember?
Sitting on my coach a few weeks after my first injection…
And realizing I was calm.
For the first time in a long time, I wasn’t nervous.
I wasn’t anxious.
I wasn’t pissed off at the world and feeling sorry for myself.
I was just…at peace 🧘♂️
Something to think about (especially if you’re worried about testosterone turning you into a rage case 😉)
Best,
Hunter Williams
